The youngest FCB U21 in years started the 2022/23 season in the Yapeal Promotion League. At the beginning of the season, there were more than 14 players in the squad who were still younger than 19 years old.

Accordingly, the start of the season was a period of adjustment and acclimatization to adult football, which the team of coach Ogi Zaric managed to do very well in a relatively short time. Many good games were played in the autumn of 2022, and with increasing experience and correct decision-making and adaptation to adult football, a good points haul could be achieved.

The highest priority for FC Basel 1893’s youth development is the individual development and maturation of the many young perspective players in the squad. At the same time, integration into team tactics should be consciously pursued. The fact that there is still room for improvement in the consistency of good results is both natural and the subject of further development work with the team.

Currently, the team is in a secure mid-table position in the Promotion League. Due to many teams within a few points, one or two places up in the table can still be reached in the last third of the championship.

Rot Blau is eagerly looking forward to the upcoming Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup™ 2023: on the one hand, as last year’s winner, they want to successfully defend their title, and on the other hand, the young players can gain valuable experience for their further development at an internationally top-class tournament.
