WOMEN'S TOURNAMENT

The women’s teams competing in the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup™ 2022 introduce themselves.

Group A

Arsenal

The 22/23 season has seen many successes both on and off the pitch. Their U16’s squad have won the southern division in an ‘invincible season’ as well as reaching the FA Youth Cup, these successes have seen several players join the U21’s squad in their county cup journey. The U21’s squad have recently won the FA WSL Academy Southern Division themselves plus seen several players progress into the first team training environment and matchday squads. 

FC Rosengård

FC Rosengård U19 is an academy team consisting of highly skilled and dedicated young women from Malmö in south Sweden. They are currently playing in the Swedish national U19 league , as well as some players also make appearances in their 1st team. After finishing 3rd in the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup™ 2022 their goal is to improve their result for this year. They are really excited to come back to Zurich again and compete with international teams.

FC Basel 1893

FCB Women U19 started the 2022/2023 season with a talented squad in the Swiss U19 championship, organized by the SFV. 

Rot Blau is looking forward to the upcoming Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup™ 2023 with full excitement. Their players are highly motivated to gain valuable experience for their further development and approach the upcoming top matches with attractive football at this top international tournament.

FC Zürich Frauen

Last year, the team had the pleasure of winning the tournament with a very young squad. This year, they are entering with many new faces. Many players from last year are not here this time, as some are participating in the U17 European Championship or the playoffs of the AWSL.

They are coming this year with a mix of U17 to U21 players. The U21 team became champions in the NLB, while the U17 and U19 are still active in the playoffs.

Group B

Vancouver Whitecaps FC

The Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy are the reigning champions of League1 BC, the top semi-professional league in British Columbia, Canada. This year, the league features eight total teams, with the winner qualifying for the national inter-provincial championship.

Whitecaps FC also participated in the 2019 Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup™ tournament. The ‘Caps defeated FC Blue Stars Zürich in Group A, before falling to VfL Wolfsburg. In the semifinals they were defeated by BSC YB Frauen, and in the third place match they took bronze with a win over Italian side Inter Milan.

Juventus

The Juventus Women Under 19, also known in Italy as the Primavera, is in the midst of a period of
strong performances, currently second in the standings and bearing the fruit of recent years of
growth in the Juventus Women Academy, which began in 2015/2016.

In recent seasons, the team has consistently arrived in the final of the Campionato Primavera and
is looking for its elusive first Scudetto this season. 

Juventus Primavera looks forward to putting its many other talents on show at the Blue Stars/FIFA
Youth Cup™.

BSC YB-Frauen

The U-19 team of YB Women is the current Swiss champion and the most successful U-19 team in Switzerland in recent years. In the last season, the Bernese women were able to bring the title back to the capital in the playoff final thanks to a 3-1 victory after extra time against FC Luzern, which means that they have won four of the last five championships. Even this season, the Bernese women are the measure of all things and lead the table with a seven-point lead after 17 matchdays.

Grasshopper Club Zürich

With a squad of 21 players with an average age of 17, it is a young team with a lot of potential for the future. Since the summer of 2022, the U19 has been coached by the coaching duo of Yusuf Arslan and Ivan Martirano, who will work together to bring out the best in the team.

The young team is excited to participate in the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup™ and also wants to make a positive impression here.
