THE TEAM INTRODUCES ITSELF
The FCB Women’s U19 team started the 2023/2024 season with a talented squad in the U19 championship organized nationally by the SFV. During the autumn season, the team was coached by Sabrina Zingg and Giovanni Castellano. In the winter, there was a change in the position of head coach: Claudio Spiegel took over as the U19 coach effective January 1, 2024, with Giovanni Castellano remaining as assistant coach.
The season started extremely positively, with the team coached by Sabrina Zingg earning 16 points from 6 games and finding themselves at the top of the table. Throughout the remainder of the autumn season, performances became more volatile due to injuries and national team commitments of some talents. However, the overall development of the players in the tactical focus area was successfully progressed despite all adversities. This ensured that the highest priority of youth development at FC Basel 1893 at the U19 level was met: the individual development and maturation of the many young perspective players in the squad.
At the start of the preparation for the second half of the season, the squad was supplemented by high-performing players from the U17 team: Navina Spiniello, Emilia Brunner (both Swiss U16 national team players), and Zineb Nibouch were promoted. Additionally, planning could finally be done with Emilia Soiron (Footura player SFV, Swiss U17 national team player) as her long-awaited comeback was imminent. During the last week of January, intensive work was done in the training camp in southern Turkey, ensuring that the team was optimally prepared for the start of the second half of the season on February 10th.
Currently, the team is placed third in the table, putting them in a very good position for the upcoming playoffs.
