Women Tournament
Group A
ARSENAL WFC
Arsenal Women FC Academy aims at supporting talented female footballers within an elite player pathway to make the step from U16s/U21’s PGA Academy football into our Arsenal Women’s First team.
The PGA Academy ensures that all players are able to develop their football as well as continuing with their education to ensure that players have a dual career pathway. The programme prepares female players for the next step in their football journey, providing them with the opportunity to fulfil their football potential while ensuring they also commit to an education or work-related training programme.
Players within the PGA Academy programme are current holders of the national league championship which includes all licenced clubs in the country, as well as current FA Youth cup holders. This season the Arsenal WFC also won the southern division title and look forward to another national play-off final to defend their title for consecutive seasons.
OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS FÉMININ
Founded in 2004, L’OL Féminin is the most successful club in the history of the French women’s championship: the Lyonnais have won sixteen French championship titles, ten French cups, and eight European championship titles (the most successful women’s team in the competition). Since 2016, the club has innovated the first mixed gender academy in France, with full sharing of training center resources. Located in Meyzieu, the men’s and women’s staffs collaborate on a daily basis to offer the best training to young players.
FC BASEL 1893
The FCB Women’s U19 team began the 2023/2024 season with a talented squad in the U19 championship organized nationally by the SFV.
The season started extremely positively, with the team coached by Sabrina Zingg earning 16 points from 6 games and finding themselves at the top of the table. Throughout the remainder of the autumn season, performances became more volatile due to injuries and national team commitments of some talents. However, the overall development of the players in the tactical focus area was successfully progressed despite all adversities. This ensured that the highest priority of youth development at FC Basel 1893 at the U19 level was met: the individual development and maturation of the many young perspective players in the squad. Currently, the team is placed third in the table, putting them in a very good position for the upcoming playoffs.
FC ZÜRICH FRAUEN
In the penultimate edition of the tournament, the very young team managed to win the championship. Last year, the FCZ Frauen finished the tournament in fourth place. This year, the team aims to prove themselves against the other teams with a mix of U17-U21 players. The U21 team became the NLB champions last season and are currently in the playoffs. The U17 and U19 teams are also still active in the championship.
Group B
BSC YB-FRAUEN
The U19 team of the YB Women is the reigning Swiss champion and the most successful U19 team in Switzerland in recent years. Last season, the women from Bern brought the title back to the capital with a clear victory against FC St. Gallen in the playoff final, winning five of the last six championships held. In the current season, the Yellow and Blacks are leading the table, but the top five teams are closely grouped together, setting the stage for an exciting race for the four playoff spots.
